LEVELLING WORK

Levelling is a surveying process used to determine the vertical position (height or elevation) of points on the earth’s surface. It helps surveyors find the difference in height between two or more points. The main purpose of levelling is to ensure that construction works such as buildings, roads, drainage systems, and bridges are built at the correct levels.

Levelling relies on the principle of a horizontal line of sight created by a levelling instrument, such as a dumpy level or automatic level. A levelling staff is used to read the height difference. By comparing readings, surveyors can determine whether a point is higher or lower than another.
